National Art Museum of Ukraine
The National Art Museum of Ukraine represents the large-scale retrospective exhibition of the classic of Ukrainian art of the 20th century Serhiy Hryhoriev. He was an academician, people’s artist of USSR, laureate of two Stalin premiums, a favorite student and follower of Fedir Krychevskyi, an outstanding master of painting and drawing, a talented pedagogue, who created his own art trend, leading the genre painting workshop for over 30 years and being the head of Kyiv Art Institute (now the National Academy of Art and Architecture) for 5 years. In the first place he is known for his model genre canvases on Soviet subjects: “At the meeting” (1947), “Young naturalists” (1948), “Admission to komsomol” (1949), “Discussion over a bad mark” (1951), “Mother” (1970), and portraits of prominent persons, such as the marshal of USSR I.S. Koniev (1947) and the poet M. Rylskyi.
