This project was made possible because of the mutual belief of the Foundation and the Museum that art can overcome boundaries and bring together people. Moreover, art has an important diplomatic mission by creating a favorable atmosphere for the development of international relations and solving political problems. Recent events in Ukraine have shown that in many cases cultural events and artistic gestures helped draw attention to the Ukrainian struggle for himan rights and dignity.
The first visit of the French photographer Eric Bouvet was held in Kyiv in early February on his own initiative; the second trip in February 18-20 was supported by Paris Match magazine. "... You are welcome here (on Maidan)! Ukrainians from Maidan were very friendly with everyone who had a camera, microphone, or simply a notebook," - these was the impression in early February. In a few weeks there have been dramatic changes: "The calmness in Kyiv was gone. The situation is like in the city in war. People are moving in hundreds. The first wounded are falling. Then, the first is murdered, the second...Shooting becomes brutal and aimed. From the top of the stairs the majestic and terrible scene reveals. Human sea is in motion, and this is the motion of the History. People are fighting for freedom. The revolution is deploying before my eyes..."
In Eric Bouvet's list of hot spots are Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, Somalia, Yugoslavia, Israel. He witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Velvet Revolution in Prague, the release of Nelson Mandela. His reports are published in Time, Life, Newsweek, Paris Match, New York Times, Der Spiegel, Figaro Magazine. Works of Eric Bouvet won five awards of World Press Photo, the two Visa d'Or, the prize of Paris Match magazine, and public Bayeux-Calvados award for war correspondents.
Exhibition in the National Art Museum of Ukraine will present a series of "Kyiv fatigue" and "Heroes of Maidan" and collages by the photographer. The exhibition develops inside and outside of the museum, symbolically combine these sites into a single space.
On May 10 the public meeting with Eric Bouvet is scheduled.
