«It is time to search, find and implement the beautiful, the beautiful among us – our mountains, the skies. One has to be able to express the passions, to see, to love and to adore. Loving is not enough! One has to divinify…
…I received 60 gold medals in total. What have I got ones for? For the taste, for the ability to express the plastic. There’s no miracle in it. I look for it, it is in the nature. The nature helps me to get this, to fix it, to create plastics and adore it. This exhibition is my holiday…»

Sergei Paradjanov

On January 30, 2008 Sergei Paradjanov’s exhibition from the collection of Sergei Paradjanov Museum (Yerevan, Armenia) will be opened in the National Art Museum of Ukraine. Over 50 art works by the greatest director – collages, assemblages, graphics – will be presented in the museum halls.

„…The temple of cinema has the image, the light and the reality, Sergei Paradjanov was the master and the owner of this temple…” Jean-Luc Godard (film director, actor, script writer and producer)

„Sergei Paradjanov created the House. Two rooms in his residence were certain spiritual center of Kyiv in the 60th. At his place you could met Sergei Gerasimov and John Apdike, a policeman standing nearby his house and the priest; the most beautiful actresses and the wisest poets and philosophers. It all was the House of Paradjanov created with his passions. It was a play and bright ideas fireworks.   Everybody’s horizons were expanded.  We’ve learned to understand related art forms. When Sergei was “tamed”, everything decayed. Everyone was left to live and to work by himself. Only a genius can revive that unity of spirit...”
Heorhiy Yakutovych (People’s Artist of Ukraine)

„Up to me, Paradjanov’s collages drew him out much better, than his films do.  No censors and editors here. There are some real masterpieces among his collages. Many people call him genius; I have never called him like that – I called him “the phenomenon of nature”. Elemental, unascertained and unperceived till the very end.”
Roman Balaian (Film Director)

Sergei Parajanov Museum was established under the decision of Government of Armenia in 1988 and opened for visitors in 1991. The basic collection has over 600 works by Paradjanov and interiors of Tiflis’s house and personal things brought to Yerevan while his alive and at his will. Museum exposition has over 250 works, documents and photos. Two memorial rooms were reconstructed here.
Artistic and exposition approaches by Paradjanov were used in the museum. For 15 years the museum has organized 48 exhibitions in Cannes, Salonika, Tokyo, Moscow, Rome, Teheran, Beijing, London, Boston, Paris and other cities.
