Kyiv and It’s Artists

Works of the artists, who lived and worked in Kyiv, take a great place in NAMU collection. The exhibition represents the period from the middle 19th – the beginning of the 20th century, which was the time of the development of Kyiv as an important cultural centre. Among the artists of the late 19th century we come across such names as Mykola Myrashko, the founder and lead of Kyiv Drawing School (1875 – 1901), his students and prominent Ukrainian artists Mykola Pymonenko, Hryhorii Svitlytskyi, Fotii Krasytskyi; the founder of the national school of landscape painting Serhii Svitoslavskyi. Art of the beginning of the 20th century is represented by bright decorative canvases of Oleksandr Murashko, Abram Manevych, Mykola Burachek, Fedir Krychevskyi, where realistic traditions are combined with painting innovations of European art. In the avant-garde works of Oleksandr Bohomazov dynamical forms create the new, non-mimetic reality.
In general, over 90 works are represented at the exhibition, and many of them are dedicated to Kyiv: its picturesque landscapes (by Grote, Svitoslavskyi, Manevych, Burachek) and prominent persons (by Murashko, Pymonenko, Selezniov).
