The National Art Museum (NAMU, English: National Art Museum of Ukraine) is a museum of fine arts in Ukraine, in Kyiv. It is located on Mykhailo Hrushevsky Street, Pechersk. One of the largest and oldest in the country. It was founded on August 1, 1899, during the time of the Russian Empire, with funds from the Russian government and the Ukrainian Tereshchenko family. The museum building was designed by the architect Vladyslav Horodetsky. The museum collection was created on the basis of donations from Bohdan Khanenko, the Tereshchenkos, Vikentii Khvoika, Mykola Bilyashivskyi and others. Opened on December 30, 1904. As of the beginning of the 21st century, museum funds include about 40,000 exhibits. It has a unique collection of works of Ukrainian painting, sculpture and icon painting from the 12th to 20th centuries.
